Satvir Kaur MP has met with Southampton neighbourhood police officers, ahead of a city centre walkabout with the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Police and Crime Commissioner later this week. At the meeting, the MP and the neighbourhood policing team discussed police reform and how officers can be supported to spend more time working in their communities.
The meeting was an opportunity for the MP to hear directly from local officers about their work and discuss how reform can help strengthen neighbourhood policing.
Satvir welcomed the strong partnership working across Southampton, recognising the importance of police, the council, local organisations and residents working together to resolve community concerns and keep people safe.
Later this week, the Southampton Test MP will be joined by Donna Jones, Hampshire and Isle of Wight Police and Crime Commissioner, for a walkabout to discuss the issue of drug-related crime and antisocial behaviour affecting the Inner Avenue area of Southampton. This follows concerns raised by Inner Avenue residents who petitioned the MP, calling for more to be done.
Satvir Kaur MP said:
“Thank you to our incredible local neighbourhood officers for taking the time to meet with me and for the work they do every day to keep Southampton safe.
“It was invaluable to hear their perspective on police reform and how we can support officers to spend more time in our neighbourhoods, building relationships with residents and preventing crime.
“We have strong partnerships here in Southampton, and I’m keen to build on them. We all have a part to play, and I’ll continue working with our police and local partners to help make our communities safer.”
