A note about acceptable communication
I receive hundreds of emails from constituents each day and my constituency office staff speak to many people over the phone every week. I also interact with lots of people via my social media pages and in Facebook groups. Whilst the vast majority of communication is civil and respectful, even if we are in profound disagreement, occasionally an email, phone conversation, or social media comment can tip from being impassioned to being disrespectful or even abusive.
In these instances – particularly when racist, sexist, homophobic, personal, offensive or derogatory language is used – I will take a zero-tolerance approach. The wellbeing of my staff is my utmost priority and I reserve the right to cease communication with those concerned, whether by ending a phone call, not replying to an email, hiding or deleting social media posts or comments, or blocking repeat offenders.
Thank you so much to all who contact me, I really appreciate hearing views from across the political spectrum and think there is huge value in respectful debate. This is just a small plea, from me and my team, to make sure we keep it respectful, for the benefit of all.
