Crime and anti-social behaviour, bus services, road maintenance and provision for young people were among the issues raised by Lordshill residents at the latest Community Conversation with Satvir Kaur MP.
Part of her ‘Big Southampton Test Community Conversation’ series, the event brought neighbours together to discuss the issues affecting their area and explore possible solutions, with residents setting the agenda.
Community safety was a particular concern, with attendees sharing accounts of retail crime, motorbike misuse and the use of catapults locally. Residents also raised concerns about the police response and the impact of persistent anti-social behaviour on everyday life.
Following the discussion, Satvir agreed to bring together local police, Southampton City Council and the community to address these concerns and agree practical action.
The Southampton Test MP also committed to continuing to press nationally for the resources, police officers and powers needed to help keep neighbourhoods safe.
Satvir Kaur, Member of Parliament for Southampton Test, said:
“Bringing people together for conversations like these is one of the best bits of my job, and I’m grateful to everyone who joined me in Lordshill. From buses and road maintenance to opportunities for our young people, hearing directly from residents helps shape the work I do.
“Some of the accounts of crime and anti-social behaviour were appalling. People shouldn’t have to live with this on their doorstep, or feel that nothing happens when they report it. I’ve agreed to bring the police, Council and community together so we can tackle these issues head on.
“Thank you to everyone who shared their experiences and ideas. If you couldn’t make it but have something you’d like to raise, please do get in touch.”
