Crime and antisocial behaviour in Shirley has got out of hand. If you want to see more police and bring back a face-to-face police counter in Shirley, please sign my petition.
Everyone deserves to feel safe in their homes and neighbourhoods, but clearly, in Southampton, many don’t.
Huge thanks to those that responded to my recent survey – it’s told me what your prioritises are, so that’s why I’m now fighting to turn the old Shirley Housing Office (which is currently sitting empty!) into a police hub, where not only local police can be based, but open up a face-to-face police counter for local residents.
This will serve some of our worst-affected wards, Shirley, Freemantle and Millbrook – where we’ve seen everything from shoplifting to anti-social behaviour on the rise. I, of course, welcome the recent government funding for more resources and police officers, but we can and should go further.
A visible, face-to-face police presence would help restore confidence, deter crime, and provide fast, reliable support.
